Our History
We are a church with both a heritage and future.
First United Methodist Church was founded October 26, 1927, when two Methodist congregations, Trinity and Tryon Street, joined as one congregation. Since that time, First UMC has sought to answer God’s call to serve the needs of the Charlotte community. One such example is Urban Ministry. Established in 1995, First UMC entered into partnership of Uptown churches to provide the basic necessities for the homeless and working poor at the Seaboard Train Station on North Tryon Street.
First UMC continues to look to the future in a thriving, revitalized Center City. We uphold values of integrity, excellence, authenticity, relevance, passion, humility, faith, inclusivity, commitment, joy and love. The life and ministry of First UMC seeks to reflect these qualities.
You are invited to come discover that there is a place for you at First UMC!
